Programme content
Explore what coaching is, where it adds value and how it differs from mentoring, counselling, training, managing and consulting.
Practise active listening, purposeful questions, reflection, paraphrasing and summarising, with attention to both principle and application.
Learn a simple structure for helping someone clarify an outcome, examine their current reality, generate options and commit to action.
Learn how to open, contract, develop and close a conversation while building rapport, managing expectations and agreeing next steps.
The GROW model
GROW is a practical coaching framework. It helps a coach hold a purposeful conversation while leaving the thinking and ownership with the person being coached. The stages can be revisited or explored in a different order when the conversation calls for it.
What would make this conversation useful? What outcome does the person want to work towards?
What is happening now? What facts, assumptions, relationships or constraints are shaping the situation?
What approaches are possible? What else could be tried, and what might each option make possible?
What will the person do, by when, and what support or accountability will help them follow through?
Sessions combine concise theory with pair and small-group practice. You will rotate through coach, coachee and observer roles, so you can experience the conversation from each perspective and make the learning relevant to your own professional context.
Important programme note
This is a foundation programme, not a standalone professional coach accreditation. It provides 12 hours of coach education.
